Wastewater and Clean Water Management

The high volumes and abrasiveness associated with wastewater and clean water management pose a significant challenge when it comes to designing the supporting equipment. Because the ratio of water to abrasive material from a single source can change frequently, every component has to be durable enough to withstand extreme abrasiveness and still perform reliably. That’s where John Crane comes in. Our products provide cost-effective solutions that reduce energy consumption and increase the efficiency of equipment used in all types of clean water and wastewater applications, from filtration to chlorination.

Efficient, Cost-effective Products

As demand for fresh water grows and natural resources become increasingly limited, managing costs can be difficult — even more so for plants in remote or elevated locations. And strict environmental standards for disposing waste or managing runoff can present additional obstacles. Fortunately, John Crane offers a wide range of innovative solutions that increase process efficiency while lowering costs, such as our John Crane seal support systems that are engineered to reduce contamination and our seals that require little to no external flush water. We’re a world leader in the design, manufacture and supply of components with proven reliability in seawater pumps, flushing pumps, transfer pumps, booster pumps and intake pumps. Our line of wastewater and clean water management products includes:

Elastomer Bellows Seals

Type 1: Full convolution, industrial duty elastomer bellows shaft seal

Type 2: Multi-purpose, non-pusher elastomer bellows seal available in single, double and balanced arrangements

Type 6: Low-pressure, elastomer bellows unitized seal head for small diameter pumps

Type 21: General duty, elastomer bellows shaft seal; an industry standard with OEMs

Type 502: Excellent in a wide range of hot-water and mild-chemical duties; designed for confined spaces and limited glands lengths

Type 2100: Compact, unitized, single-spring elastomer bellows mechanical seal known for durability and performance

Type 2106: Compact, unitized, single-spring elastomer bellows seal known for fast and easy installation and replacement

Type 4111: Suitable for use with aqueous solutions, engineered to reduce installation times, lower maintenance costs and optimize equipment performance

O-ring Pusher Seals

5600 Series: The first truly universal cartridge with built-in modularity

SB1: Robust single seal for clean fluids and low-percent solids slurries

SBW Quench Seal Arrangement: Reliable seal with non-pressurized buffer fluid and grease quench

SB2 Dual-seal Arrangement: Double-balanced dual-cartridge seal designed for tough duties

Styles K1730 and K1771: Constructed of high-tensile strength, abrasion-resistant fibers for excellent chemical resistance, dimensional stability, resilience and conformability

Style 1345: Constructed of abrasion- and chemical-resistant fibers that accommodate a wide range of abrasive and slurry services, temperatures, pressures and shaft speeds

Styles C1064 and 1993: Ideal for abrasive services where packing extrusion and sleeve or shaft wear are a concern

Style RPS44: Resilient packing designed to handle high axial and radial shaft movement

CVU/CVH: Automatic packings containing no lubricants or dispersions, well suited for non-contaminating services

Seal Support Systems

GR1/1C: General duty reservoir that can withstand pressure up to 16.3 bar while providing buffer/barrier fluid to a dual-seal arrangement

GR2/2C: General duty reservoir that can withstand pressure up to 30 bar while providing buffer/barrier fluid to a dual-seal arrangement

GR3/3C: General duty reservoir that can withstand pressure up to 73 bar (stainless steel) or 62 bar (carbon steel) while providing buffer/barrier fluid to a dual-seal arrangement

GP-S/GP-D: Non-API gas control panel for filtering, regulating and monitoring gas supply to gas-lubricated pump seals

Cyclone Separators: Typically used in an API Plan 31 arrangement and incorporated in the seal flush line (API Plan 11 ) from the discharge of the pump

Safeunit Ultima: Specially designed to control seal water flow and pressure in extreme conditions

Safeclean: Removes impurities and particles, providing clean seal water for stuffing boxes and mechanical seals

Splits Seals

Type 3740: Wet-running split seal incorporates the best features for fast and easy seal installation

Type 3740D: Dry-running split seal designed for the large shaft run-out and harsh operating conditions commonly associated with top-entry vessel mixing services and other dry-running applications

Type 3740XL: Wet-running split seal designed fast and easy seal installation, while providing reliable seal performance in demanding large pump and other big rotating equipment fluid services

Type 37FS: Fully split mechanical seal helps significantly reduce maintenance on larger, difficult-to-seal equipment. It is recommended for use on heavy-duty packed equipment

Power Transmission Couplings

A Series: Urethane element couplings known for quick installation without moving prime mover or driven equipment

L Series: Designed for demanding industrial applications with a scalloped hub for the shaft

Filtration Systems

John Crane's Seebach Particle Filters are used to clean water from the public drinking water network at the inflow into buildings and for the fine filtration of drinking water near to the point of use. They remove suspended sand grains and particles, such as rust, flax fibres, or debris from broken seals, from the pipe system.
