Jean Vernet President and CEO, John Crane

Jean Vernet

CEO and Division President

Jean Vernet, appointed in 2017, is the 14th CEO to lead John Crane since its founding in 1917. In this role, Jean has global responsibility for one of the largest divisions of Smiths Group. Jean holds more than 30 years of experience in business development, technical sales and finance, with leadership in various markets including oil and gas, specialty metals, technology, big data, and clean energy, and across services and engineered products.

Prior to joining John Crane, Jean was CFO of Expro, a global leader in critical oil and gas deepwater exploration and completion services. Before joining Expro in 2012, Jean served as CFO of technology companies Grid Net and FormFactor, and as Director of Risk at Rio Tinto Alcan.

From 1996 to 2007, Jean was employed by Schlumberger, a leading provider of technology services for reservoir characterization, drilling, production, and processing to the oil and gas industry. For over 11 years he held positions of increasing responsibility including Finance Director of the wireline business and corporate R&D. Over his career, Jean has lived and worked in Asia, Europe, and the U.S.

Jean earned an MBA in finance and accounting from the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business, and an MSE in Mechanical Engineering from Ecole Centrale de Lyon in France.

Celine Boland - Chief Financial Officer of John Crane

Celine Boland

Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Celine Boland is Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, responsible for leading the company’s global finance function and all financial operations, and driving financial excellence across the organization.

Since joining John Crane in 2000, Celine has held several finance leadership roles including Finance Director at John Crane Ireland and Director, Global Financial Projects and M&A. Prior to her current position, Celine relocated to the divisional headquarters in Chicago, Illinois, in 2011, where she served as Global Finance Director supporting the division in driving global business performance, integrating business strategic planning and forecasting, supporting investments, including M&A and driving analytical excellence.

Prior to joining John Crane, Celine held various finance roles in privately held Irish companies and started her career in Chartered Accounting Practice. Celine holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business from the Institute of Business and Accounting in Dublin, and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Patrick Thompson Executive Vice President of Marketing at John Crane

Patrick Thompson

Executive Vice President, Strategic Marketing and New Business Development

Patrick Thompson joined John Crane in November 2017, and currently serves as Executive Vice President, Strategic Marketing and New Business Development. In this role, he is responsible for leading and strengthening the marketing function, focusing on technology portfolio optimization, go-to-market strategies and front-line sales support to grow the business in established oil and gas markets and foster expansion into new industry verticals.

Prior to joining John Crane, Patrick worked for Schlumberger―the world’s leading oilfield services company―for 25 years in various leadership roles, including operations, sales, marketing and key account management. Patrick started his career at Schlumberger career as a field geophysicist in oil and gas and mineral exploration activities in Africa, Europe and North America. This experience led to various management roles with increasing responsibilities in the seismic exploration sector. Patrick continued his career in strategic marketing and sales management roles across a wide range of Schlumberger’s businesses, geographies and client accounts at both product line and group levels.

Patrick received a Master of Science in Exploration Geophysics from the Royal School of Mines, Imperial College London and a Bachelor of Science in Geophysical Sciences from the University of Southampton.

Olivier Lacquemanne

Olivier Lacquemanne

Executive Vice President, Human Resources

Olivier Lacquemanne joined John Crane in January 2018, and currently serves as Executive Vice President, Human Resources. In this role, he is responsible for leading and deploying global human resources strategies across the division to support the business vision.

Prior to joining John Crane, Olivier spent nearly 30 years at Schlumberger―the world’s leading oilfield services company―in various leadership roles including, human resources, marketing, news business development, sales, IT and operations. In his most recent role at Schlumberger, Olivier served as Vice President, Human Resources for M-I SWACO and was responsible for managing 15,000 employees across more than 70 countries. Olivier managed all aspects of strategic workforce planning including, talent acquisition, training and career development, competency and talent management, succession planning, and compensation strategies.

Over the course of his career, Olivier has garnered international experience in senior leadership roles throughout a variety of geographies spanning Latin America, North America and Europe.

Olivier received a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Ecole Catholique d’Arts et Metiers in Lyon, France.

John Donatiello Executive Vice President, Product Line

John Donatiello

Executive Vice President, Product Line

John Donatiello is Executive Vice President, Product Line, and is responsible for ensuring accountability for John Crane’s business segments including Global Operations and Supply Chain.

With more than 30 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, John has a deep understanding of John Crane’s customer needs and a passion for customer excellence. 

In his prior roles, John served as Vice President of Global End-User Sales and Service, with global responsibility for the end-user business and aftermarket services. Prior to this position, John served as Vice President of the Americas.

From 2005 to 2009, John worked for Weir Oil & Gas, a global provider of oil and gas products. He started his tenure there as Vice President of Global Sales, Marketing and Engineering for the Weir Services division. He was then given added responsibility to run Weir’s regional service business in the Middle East, India and North Africa. John was promoted to Executive Vice President of Global Sales, Marketing and Service for Weir Oil and Gas. From 1981 to 2005, he worked at Flowserve Pump Division in numerous leadership positions in sales, operations, service and general management.

John hold a Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago and an MBA in Operations Management from the Illinois Institute of Technology. 

Ruben Alvarez

Ruben Álvarez

Executive Vice President, GeoMarkets

Ruben Álvarez is Executive Vice President, GeoMarkets covering both OEM and End User customers where he is responsible for sales, repair and services around the world.

Since joining John Crane in 1998, Ruben has held several management roles including Managing Director for John Crane Iberica and John Crane Western Europe, as well as Managing Director of John Crane MEA and Vice President and General Manager of John Crane’s upstream oil services business. Most recently, Ruben served as Vice President of John Crane’s First Fit Business, where he held global responsibility for the First Fit, OEM and Engineering, Procurement and Construction customer business.

Ruben holds a Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering from University of Central Florida and an MBA in International Management from European University of Toulouse, France. He also successfully completed the International Executive Management Program and the Corporate Leadership Program at Harvard Business School.

Joe Haas Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of John Crane

Joe Haas

Vice President Engineering

Joe Haas is Vice President Engineering, responsible for the company’s engineering organization, research and development strategy, and innovation process. During his tenure at John Crane, Joe has focused on meeting customer expectations by implementing several new engineering systems and processes that led to higher productivity and better efficiency for customers.

Joe joined John Crane in 1989 as a product engineer, later becoming a product manager and then manager of the Americas product group. In 1995, he became responsible for new product development activities for John Crane North America and made multiple contributions to the product portfolio that are still sold to customers today.

Joe became Director of Engineering in 1999, where he was responsible for design, application and development activities across John Crane North America. He was soon promoted to Vice President of Engineering and maintained responsibility for all corporate engineering activities within the Americas before being promoted to the position of Global Vice President of Research, Development and Engineering in 2014.

Joe holds a Bachelor’s degree in Technology from Missouri State University.

Alistair Rogers

Alistair Rogers

Vice President, HSE and Global Quality (HSEQ)

Alistair Rogers is Vice President of HSE and Global Quality (HSEQ), responsible for driving safety, quality and environmental culture and programs, regulatory compliance and continuous improvement across the organization’s global network.

Alistair joined John Crane as an undergraduate engineer in 1987, and held Engineering, Sales and Field Service roles based in the UK and Canada for John Crane Marine. In 1992, he transferred to John Crane Asia Pacific working directly with customers and developing our capabilities across the region as Engineering Director.

In 2000, Alistair joined John Crane in Morton Grove, IL, holding a series of Operations leadership roles. In 2007 he was promoted to Vice President Operations Americas, and has since held senior regional and global roles in Operations, Quality, and Program Management.

Alistair holds a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Birmingham.

John Long

Vice President, Global Operations and Strategic Manufacturing & Supply

John Long is Vice President, Global Operations and Strategic Manufacturing & Supply, and is responsible for leading the strategic transformation of Global Operations by driving flexibility and differentiation through product and service quality.

Since joining John Crane in 2002, John has held several management roles including U.K. Manufacturing Manager, and then Operations Director where he oversaw the development and implementation of strategic planning to increase operational efficiency and effectiveness.

He then transitioned into commercial roles serving as the General Manager Saudi Arabia, General Manager Middle East, Managing Director Canada, and Vice President of Sales and Service Europe. Most recently, John served as Vice President of Strategic Manufacturing & Supply, where he was responsible for John Crane global operations, supply chain and manufacturing technology strategy.

John holds an MBA from Aston Business School in Birmingham, U.K.

Michael Cavanaugh

Vice President and General Manager, Digital Product Line

Michael Cavanaugh is Vice President and General Manager, Digital Product Line, and is responsible for leading the expansion of John Crane’s digital product line. He is focused on the strategic development of the complete digital/internet of things (IoT) business portfolio. In addition, he leads the deployment of digitization across all aspects of our business including products, services and internal processes.

Prior to joining John Crane, Michael held leadership roles in service, operations, sales, marketing and product management at GE, United Airlines, Safran and most recently Smiths Detection where he served as Vice President, Global Service and Digital Solutions. Michael has a successful track record of growing value-driven, disruptive digital businesses and a wealth of experience in transformative models.

Michael holds a Bachelor’s degree from Lake Forest College and an MBA from The University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business.

Cyrille Levesque

Division Chief Technology Officer

Cyrille Levesque is Division Chief Technology Officer, responsible for ensuring the long-term strategy in new technology is aligned with the plan of growth of John Crane.

Cyrille has more than 26 years of experience in product development and manufacturing. His expertise covers bringing low-volume and high-volume products from concept to fully commercial states.

Prior to joining John Crane, Cyrille was part of Schlumberger, the leader in services for characterizing, drilling and producing oil and gas reservoirs. For the last 16 years, he held multiple management roles with assignments throughout France, the Middle East and the U.S. He was later appointed Head of Engineering and Manufacturing of two multibillion dollar divisions of Schlumberger.

Cyrille holds a Master of Science in Electronics from the École Centrale de Paris in France.
