Interim President, John Crane

Tedd Smith is currently serving as Interim President of John Crane. He was appointed President of Flex-Tek in 2002 and continued in the post after a Smiths Group restructuring in 2008 split the former Specialty division into three separate engineering businesses - John Crane, Smiths Interconnect and Flex-Tek. An Accounting & Finance graduate from the University of South Carolina, Tedd has a 40-year career in the flexible technologies sector, providing engineered components that heat and move fluid for Aerospace, Medical, Industrial, Construction and Domestic markets.

John Donatiello

Vice President of Global End-User Sales and Service

John Donatiello is Vice President of Global End-User Sales and Service, with global responsibility for the end-user business and aftermarket services. Mr. Donatiello has more than 30 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. He has a deep understanding of John Crane’s customers’ needs and a passion for customer excellence. Prior to this position, Mr. Donatiello was John Crane’s Vice President of the Americas.

From 2005 to 2009, Mr. Donatiello worked for Weir Oil & Gas, a global provider of oil and gas products. He started his tenure there as Vice President of Global Sales, Marketing and Engineering for the Weir Services division. He was then given added responsibility to run Weir’s regional service business in the Middle East, India and North Africa. Mr. Donatiello was promoted to Executive Vice President of Global Sales, Marketing and Service for Weir Oil and Gas. From 1981 to 2005, he worked at Flowserve in numerous leadership positions in sales, operations, service and general management.

Mr. Donatiello holds an MBA in operations management from Illinois Institute of Technology and a B.S. in civil engineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Ruben Alvarez

Ruben Alvarez

Vice President of Global First Fit Business

Ruben Alvarez is Vice President of the First Fit Business, with global responsibility for the first fit, OEM and EPC customer business and the upstream oil services business.

Since joining John Crane in 1998, Mr. Alvarez has held several management roles including managing director for John Crane Iberica and John Crane Western Europe. Next, he was appointed to managing director of John Crane Middle East and Africa, where he held responsibility for a culturally and politically diverse region that stretched from the Caspian territories to the Gulf Coast countries and the African continent – totalling 68 countries. Prior to his current position, Mr. Alvarez was vice president and general manager of John Crane’s upstream oil services business.

Mr. Alvarez holds a Bachelor of Science degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Central Florida and an MBA in international management from European University of Toulouse, France.  He also successfully completed an International Executive Management Program (TGMP) and the Corporate Leader Program at Harvard Business School.

David Tallentire

Vice President of Global Operations

David Tallentire is John Crane’s Vice President of Global Operations. He holds responsibility for the company’s global operations, procurement, supply chain management and continuous improvement, including lean operations implementation. Prior to this position, Mr. Tallentire was Vice President of Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), and supply chain. In this position, Mr. Tallentire was responsible for sales, customer service, operations, finance and human resources across 33 business entities within the EMEA region, as well as the company’s global supply chain strategy.

Mr. Tallentire began his career at John Crane in 1999 in the High-volume Operations Group. Since then, he has been promoted into several operations and general management leadership roles. Mr. Tallentire holds a B.Sc. (Hons) in metallurgy and materials science from The University of Birmingham.

Eric Evans

Vice President and Divisional Chief Financial Officer

Eric Evans is John Crane’s Divisional Chief Financial Officer, responsible for the company’s global finance organization and all financial operations.  Prior to joining John Crane in 2011, he held senior leadership roles at Covidien, a $12 billion health care products company. He joined Covidien in 2007 as Vice President of Finance for the company’s $1 billion Pharmaceutical division; he was then appointed to Vice President and General Manager of the company’s $400 million Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) global business unit.

Mr. Evans worked at Johnson & Johnson from 2001 to 2007, where he held numerous director of finance roles, while living abroad in Belgium for more than three years.  He began his career at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Evans holds an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University, a B.A. in economics from John Carroll University and is a Certified Management Accountant. He formerly served on the board of directors for the Drug, Chemical, and Associated Technologies Association before joining John Crane.

Barbara Turk

Barbara Turk

Global Vice President of Human Resources

Barbara Turk is the Global Vice President of Human Resources, responsible for the company’s global employee acquisition, development and talent growth. She joined John Crane in 2013, most recently holding the position of Global Human Resources Business Partner for end user sales and service.

Prior to joining John Crane, Mrs. Turk was the HR Director for Biofuels at BP plc, responsible for Europe, Latin America and the United States. She spent 14 years with BP plc in a variety of leadership roles including HR Director for Commercial Fuels in Europe, Management Development Specialist and HR Manager for Chemicals. Prior to BP plc, Mrs. Turk worked for a small storage startup company where she established their human resources department.

Mrs. Turk was born and raised in Switzerland and holds a B.S. in Management and International Studies from Indiana University, and obtained her MBA in Strategic HR Management and International Business from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University.

Jay Angelo

Jay Angelo

Vice President and General Counsel

Jay Angelo is the Vice President and General Counsel of John Crane, responsible for the company’s global legal and trade compliance organization. Mr. Angelo first joined Smiths Group as the General Counsel of Smiths Interconnect in 2009, and was appointed to his current position in February of 2014.

Prior to joining Smiths Group, he worked for several publicly-traded companies including Move, Inc., AMS, Inc., and j2 Global Communications, where he held Associate General Counsel positions with a broad range of responsibility for commercial transactions, corporate governance, intellectual property and compliance.  Mr. Angelo began his legal career at the New York-headquartered law firm Willkie Farr & Gallagher, where he worked in its D.C. office for three years on telecommunications regulatory, transactional and anti-trust matters.

Mr. Angelo holds a J.D. from George Washington University Law School and a B.A in government and a minor in economics from Georgetown University.       

Joe Haas

Vice President & Chief Technology Officer

Joe Haas is the Vice President & Chief Technology Officer, responsible for the company’s engineering organization, R&D strategy and innovation process.  During his tenure at John Crane, Mr. Haas has focused on meeting customer expectations by implementing several new engineering systems and processes that led to higher productivity and better efficiency for customers.

Mr. Haas joined John Crane in 1989 as a product engineer, before becoming a product manager and then manager of the Americas product group.  In 1995, he became responsible for new product development activities for John Crane North America and made multiple contributions to the product portfolio that are still sold to customers today.  Mr. Haas became Director of Engineering in 1999, responsible for the design, application and development activities across John Crane North America. He was soon promoted to Vice President of Engineering and maintained responsibility for all corporate engineering activities within the Americas, before being promoted to a global vice president position in 2008.

Mr. Haas holds a B.S. in technology from Missouri State University.

Rich Steffens

Rich Steffens

Vice President of Global Quality

Rich Steffens is the company’s Vice President of Global Quality, responsible for driving quality across the organization’s global network. Prior to joining John Crane in 2013, he spent 10 years in quality leadership roles at Harley Davidson Motor Company. His most recent position was the director of quality for global advanced manufacturing where he was responsible for the strategic and tactical integration of quality operating and management systems, manufactured product quality, and process standardization and implementation. 

During his tenure at Harley Davidson, he was also responsible for teaching and mentoring continuous improvement of manufacturing systems for global manufacturing operations. Before joining Harley Davidson, Mr. Steffens spent 16 years at Ford Motor Company and three years at General Motors. Mr. Steffens holds a M.S. in engineering from Stanford University and a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Michigan Technical University.
