Plan 66B (Leakage Detection Instrument)

Outboard
Plan 66B is a leakage detection plan for single seals, commonly applied in pipeline applications. It utilizes a pressure transmitter to monitor seal leakage and set off an alarm when leakage becomes excessive or in the case of seal failure.
Plan 66B

Why do we use it?

  • When we want to monitor the rate of leakage across a mechanical seal and alarm when the rate is high
  • When a simple remote monitoring solution is required
  • When there is not space for a dual bushing arrangement

Advantages:

Utilizes an orifice plug in the drain port to restrict the flow of excessive leakage to drain, allowing a pressure increase to be monitored or trigger an alarm on seal failure.

General:

Leakage from the drain port should be collected and piped to a liquid recovery system or sump. The orifice plug should consider the fluid properties.
