Our services

Managed Reliability Programme

The MRP is a fully managed solution for wet seal reliability, designed for customers who want deeper, hands-on involvement from John Crane.

With dedicated onsite engineers or technicians, the programme delivers customised service agreements with agreed KPIs and fixed fees.

Beyond reducing unplanned downtime and extending equipment life, MRP provides comprehensive oversight of reliability, safety, and performance —including active management of total cost of ownership.

By combining proactive maintenance strategies with continuous field presence and deeper operational integration, the MRP ensures consistent and dependable performance across critical rotating equipment while freeing customers from the day-to-day burden of seal management.

Reliability Support Programme

The RSP is a service contract designed to provide targeted support for wet seal reliability.

Customers benefit from proactive maintenance guidance, periodic field reliability support and access to John Crane’s technical expertise — without the need for a full-time onsite engineer.

This programme helps reduce unplanned downtime, extend the life of mechanical seals and rotating equipment, and address recurring failures as they arise. It also supports inventory optimisation and offers technical training to strengthen in-house capability.

RSP is best suited for plants that want expert support to improve reliability while continuing to manage day-to-day operations internally.

Gas Seal Management Programme

The GSMP is our recertification and repair services contract, ensuring that spare dry gas mechanical seals are always ready for immediate use when needed.

We support customers in preventing centrifugal compressor failures and avoiding costly production losses by ensuring the integrity and readiness of spare dry gas seal inventory.

The programme includes planned recertification that aligns with seal shelf-life and maintenance requirements. It also offers expert repair services after scheduled or unplanned removals.

Additionally, climate-controlled storage with optimal handling is provided.

Together, these elements safeguard seal usability and performance. It also ensures full traceability and rapid availability of spares, enabling quick response and reliable operation when seals are needed most.

Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between RSP and MRP?

John Crane’s Reliability Support Program (RSP) offers targeted guidance for wet seal reliability without requiring a full-time onsite engineer. It’s ideal for plants that want expert support while managing operations internally. The Managed Reliability Program (MRP) provides deeper involvement with dedicated onsite engineers, customised service agreements, and full oversight of seal reliability, safety, and performance.

What is reliability management?

Reliability management is the strategic process of maintaining seal and equipment performance to reduce failures, extend asset life, and lower the total cost of ownership. John Crane’s Seal Reliability Management contracts combine proactive maintenance, field support, and inventory optimisation to ensure consistent uptime and safe, efficient operations.

What is the lifespan of a seal?

Seal lifespan depends on operating conditions, maintenance practices, and seal type. John Crane’s Gas Seal Management Program (GSMP) helps extend seal life through planned recertification, expert repairs, and climate-controlled storage, ensuring seals remain ready, traceable, and reliable when needed.

Why does seal failure happen?

Seal failure can result from improper installation, poor operating conditions, lack of maintenance, or recurring equipment issues. John Crane addresses these risks through root cause analysis, proactive reliability strategies, and technical support to eliminate recurring failures and improve seal performance.
