Plan 51 (Quench Pot)

Outboard
Plan 51 external reservoir providing a dead-ended blanket of fluid to the quench connection of the gland. Typically used with an auxiliary sealing device.
Plan 51

Why do we use it?

  • When crystalisation or icing on the atmospheric side of the seal is likely and could cause damage to the seal
  • When a Plan 62 quench supply is unavailible or impractical
  • Usually only recommended for vertical pumps

Advantages:

Can be used to retard/prevent crystallization or icing on atmospheric side of seal.

General:

Careful selection of auxiliary sealing device required to prevent escape of blanket fluid from reservoir.

NOTE:

May not be possible to achieve a 3-year operating life dependant on type of auxiliary sealing device used.
