In 2013, Colombia’s largest crude oil pipeline operator wanted to reduce the total cost of ownership of its pipeline pumps and other rotating equipment. The pumps were critical components of the pipeline, which travels over 600 miles and is supported by 10 pumping stations. Reliability and maintenance managers knew that increased pump seal mean time between failure cut into maintenance budgets, production and company profits. The pipeline company decided to work with John Crane to take over its seal maintenance efforts to lower costs and increase the pipeline’s efficiency and reliability through John Crane’s Mechanical Seals Reliability Program.
