John Crane's Groundbreaking Predictive Diagnostics System Now in Customer Trials

Marks milestone in the development of new smart connected device for energy sector

CHICAGO (July 21, 2015) – Customer trials are in progress for John Crane’s new Predictive Diagnostics System, which is designed to reduce customers’ operational costs by predicting their maintenance needs and minimizing disruption to their operations. The trials will be completed at customer sites in several locations around the world. John Crane is aiming to validate the system design and to collect additional customer input as it finishes developing the system.

Joseph Haas, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of John Crane, said: “Having our customers use the new technology in real scenarios puts us one step closer to reaching our vision of embedding intelligence into all of our products.

“By combining decades of industry expertise with expert system logic and artificial intelligence algorithms, we’ll be able to offer customers our first smart connected device, an advanced predictive diagnostics system.”

John Crane designed the new technology to provide real-time health assessments and predictive diagnostics for mechanical seals – components that are critical to the reliable, safe operation of rotating equipment in the oil and gas industry. Utilizing artificial intelligence and the company’s unique understanding of mechanical seal failure modes, John Crane’s research and development team developed the Predictive Diagnostics System through collaboration programs with leading universities. The company is also evaluating additional applications for the system.
