John Crane Presenting and Exhibiting at the 2020 Virtual Turbomachinery & Pump Symposia

CHICAGO (November 30, 2020) ― John Crane, a global leader in rotating equipment solutions, supplying engineered technologies and services to process industries, today announced plans to present and exhibit at this year’s virtual Turbomachinery & Pump Symposia.

John Crane will participate in the online exhibition to provide conferencegoers the chance to learn more about the company’s range of mechanical seals and systems, power transmission couplings, and filtration and service options. Virtual booth visitors can download key product information, watch video interviews with the company’s product experts and use the live chat to contact John Crane directly.

In addition, John Crane experts will present and facilitate discussions about relevant industry topics at this year’s conference:

  • Brian Kalfrin, Senior Regional Engineering Manager, will help present the pump tutorial―“What’s Inside the Box When Considering AP Plan 54?”―discussing the many variables to address when a pressurized external lubrication system is to be considered for specific applications. Demonstrating by example, Kalfrin will show that careful consideration and adherence to the recommended practices will return a reliable support system for challenging dual pressurized seal installations. The tutorial will take place on Tuesday, December 8 at 2 p.m. More information can be found here.

  • Christie Twist, Team Leader, Gas Seals Development, Dr. Jiao Yang, Product Manager, Kanza Amanullah, Development Engineer, and Marwan Jahchan, Dry Gas Seals Manager will present “Dry Gas Seal Material Investigation for Enhanced Slow Roll & Wind-Milling Reliability.” Dry gas seals, while ideally non-contacting, must reliably perform under all operating conditions encountered by a compressor, including those conditions which induce contact such as slow roll, turning gear, ratcheting and windmilling. This lecture reports the results of full-scale tests designed to mimic the operating conditions encountered over the life of a seal, comprising of maximum pressures and speeds, numerous start-ups and shut-downs. The tutorial will take place on Tuesday, December 8 at 2:30 p.m. More information can be found here.

  • Christie Twist, Team Leader, Gas Seals Development, and Inderpal Sihra, Product Development Manager are part of the team presenting the turbo tutorial “Introduction to Dry Gas Seals and Systems.” This short course will provide a thorough understanding of dry gas seals, including design, operation and maintenance, explaining how each component of the seal contributes to its operation. Seal selection for various applications, methods for seal testing to ensure design conditions and understanding common failure modes will also be discussed. The tutorial will take place on Tuesday, December 8 at 3 p.m. More information can be found here.

  • Joe Delrahim Director, Gas Seal Sales for Latin America will co-present a customer case study “LNG Compressor Dry Gas Seal Performance Assessment.” Centrifugal compressor operators primarily rely on seal vent leakage for equipment protection and diagnostic assessment of the mechanical seal’s health. While this provides some important information, it may not provide a complete or sufficiently leading indication of the seal’s health. Attendees will learn about the results of embedded sensors in the seals of a large frame compressor and online monitoring used in conjunction with conventional systems to develop an improved view of seal health. Cases involving both failures and indication of failure experienced by one operator will be presented. The tutorial will take place on Tuesday, December 8 at 3:15 p.m. More information can be found here.
