The report indicates that Brazil’s largest pulp and paper company was ahead of the curve and adjusted operations three weeks before the most recent outbreak. The company limits the number of people with access to the mill and operates with high raw material levels. The pulp and paper industry has been termed an essential business by many nations around the globe as 2020’s shortage indicated the high demand for products such as paper towels and toilet paper.
Other companies in the region have been operating without a significant change in production. A leading pulp producer invested in a new swinging bleached eucalyptus kraft (BEK) pulp and dissolving pulp (DP) line, which is currently ramping up construction. Another area mill confirmed that despite a series of modifications to its logistics and infrastructure and stringent protocols, work remains on schedule.
