According to reports from BNamericas, exploration and production activity across Latin America and the Caribbean will continue recovering in 2021 and could see rapid acceleration as a COVID-19 vaccine becomes readily and widely available. Brazil, in part because of its sheer size, will likely lead the rebound, assisted by lower investments required on pre-salt production projects and the prospect of drilling rights auctions. However, there are also opportunities in Colombia where fracking pilots and new offshore exploration projects are expected to begin in 2021. Project developments are also increasing off the coast of Guyana and new deep-water prospects developing in neighbouring Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago.
After the COVID-19 pandemic forced much of Latin America into lockdown and significantly reduced energy demand, operators across the region are restarting suspended projects and upwardly revising capital spending.
